We all want some quick easy ways to drop 10 kilos that took us years to gain. If you are able to lose weight that easy, there is a good chance you will gain it right back because they are usually so strict that it is impossible to stay on the diet for a long period of time.

What are Fad diets?

These are those tough no hunger plans that promise quick weight loss and dramatic results and make you believe that eating (or not eating) specific foods will shed those extra kilos in days.

I have tried some of the fad diets, and yes they work, but should not be continued for a long period.

Here’s why…

  1. Some of these require you to cut out carbohydrates or any type of fat from your daily foods. This can lead to serious nutritional deficiencies. Carbohydrates are significant sources of energy. Depriving yourself of these nutrients can cause you to feel fatigued. Contrary to popular belief, not all fats are bad for you. Good fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids, are essential if you want to have good health.
  2. Fad diets can also lead to health conditions like hair and muscle loss. Your hair requires a good deal of protein to grow and thrive. When you are not getting enough protein in your diet, your hair eventually loses its health, leading to brittleness. Muscle loss is another negative effect -since your diet is very low in calories, your body will look for other ways to get energy like using energy from muscles and thus losing muscle weight. This is detrimental to weight loss because muscles help you burn more calories even when you are at rest.
  3. Another irony that fad diet followers suffer is from reduced metabolic rate due to the poor dietary intake. Being on a constant diet for a long time slows down your metabolic rate. The body goes into the starvation mode where food consumed is stored in the body as fat… thus increasing your tendency to put on weight even when you are on the fad diet.

So, now that I’ve made you aware of the fake promises made by your Fad diet…
